Specialized Medical Care or Health Clinic?

The Accident & Emergency clinic of the central hospital is intended for patients with an illness or injury that requires treatment or examination so promptly that the patient can not use the services of a health clinic (or occupational health clinic) doctor. If the acute injury or illness is not serious or life-threatening, you should in the first place seek a health clinic’s emergency duty.

A patient coming to the central hospital’s Accident & Emergency clinic, which is a specialized medical care unit, should have a doctor’s referral, written for example at a health clinic, occupational health clinic or private doctor’s office. Without a referral or adequate reason you can not get in to a specialized medical care A&E, but you are directed to a health clinic’s A&E. In serious or life-threatening cases, no referral is required for specialized medical care Accident & Emergency.

No referral is required to a health clinic’s A&E. The following municipalities have centralized their health clinic A&E to the central hospital’s facilities for night time, 22.00–8.00: Vaasa, Mustasaari, Kyrönmaa (Laihia, Vähäkyrö), Maalahti, Korsnäs, Vöyri-Maksamaa, Oravainen.
