Day case surgery – home the same day

The day case surgery in Vaasa Central Hospital was established on 4 January 1993. On 5 February 1996 the operations moved into the renovated facilities in A2. After this we have operated every year more and a wider variety of patients. Our Day Surgery Unit has two operating theatres, a small recovery ward, and a room where the patients can rest after their surgery. A new Day Surgery Unit is being built, and it should be completed in 2013.

Currently, nearly half of all the operations performed in Vaasa Central Hospital are day cases. Our goal is to do 70 % of the hospital’s operations as day cases when the new department is finished.

Head physician Tuula Vuorialho and ward manager Terhi Venäläinen are responsible of the contents of these pages in collaboration with surgeons of the different specialties.
