Visit before surgery

The appointment letter to an operation contains instructions on preparing yourself to the operation, the date of the operation and possible final preoperative visit, and a pre-anaesthesia form "Information for anaesthesia" ( The form opens into Excel, where you can fill it. Remember to print the filled form as you come to the hospital for your surgery.)

Most patients must come to a preoperative visit to the Preoperativ Unit 1–2 weeks before the operation. On the office visit, the doctor ensures that the procedure is required and provides you with a possibility to discuss any issues related to the surgery.

On the same visit, a nurse advises on preparing yourself to the operation, provides you with an exact time when to arrive, and describes the course of the operation day. Post-operative treatment and measurement of pain will also be discussed.

Laboratory tests and x-rays may also be taken on the preoperative visit. The anaesthetic doctor will also meet the patient if that is required. If there is no preoperative visit, we will contact you from the Preoprative Unit by phone before the surgery. Gynaecological and ear patients will get the operation appointment and guidance at the Outpatient Clinic.
