The Ostrobothnia Corona Coordination Group (Pohjanmaan koronakoordinaatioryhmä) made strong recommendations not to hold private gatherings of more than 10 people and also called upon AVI to ban public events and general meetings of more than 10 people. In addition, it has been recommended that the elderly and at-risk groups be protected by arranging so that visits to elderly care homes take place in the person's own room.

The Ostrobothnia Corona Coordination Group met on Thursday afternoon on 9 October. The group made new, strong recommendations to curb the further spread of the corona epidemic. In addition, the group appealed to AVI, which may impose regional restrictions on the organisation of public events and general meetings. The group called for a ban on public events and general meetings of more than 10 people throughout the region.

During Friday, the regional government agency approved a petition from the Vaasa Hospital District to ban public events and public gatherings of more than 10 people in the entire district. AVI will provide more information on this. Public events include concerts, cinema screenings, general meetings and sports tournaments. Public meetings, for example, are public demonstrations. For more information on the definition of a public event and examples of ongoing normal operations, see the AVI website.

In addition, the hospital district strongly recommends that private events for more than 10 people should not be held either. Restriction measures are valid until 31.10.2020.

The elderly and at-risk groups need to be given special attention, according to the group, as the coronavirus epidemic has already begun to spread to these groups. The group recommends that indoor visits to care homes for the elderly take place in the person's own room and that public living areas are avoided.

In addition, the group continues to remind the public about the strong recommendations for wearing face masks and maintaining safe social distancing, as well as the fact that people should not visit public spaces, for example, even if symptoms are only mild, thus risking exposure of the virus to others.
