The task of Vaasa Hospital District is to arrange specialized health care for the area’s population. The district consists of the municipalities of the Osthrobothian coastal district. The area spans from Luoto municipality in the north to Kristiinankaupunki in the south. The population of the area is around 167 000 of which c. 51% speaks Swedish and c. 49 % speaks Finnish as their first language.
Administratively the district consists of one hospital that maintains functions in Kristiinankaupunki and Vaasa. The hospital offers services in 16 specialized fields that are supported by several service units.
